Collage art. Why do I feel that one paper element fits perfectly into another one? Coincidences are often the glue of my work. That is why I regard my work as “found work”: the individual elements only needed to be brought together. In line with my character, I work impulsively and untidy. I don’t strive for perfection, on the contrary, there is a genuine beauty to be found in imperfections. Cracks, folds, and stains all have a reason, after all, they tell the story.

My women are powerful, playful, gentle and full of life. They bring you a world of endless possibilities and invite you to look beyond your expectations.

The source materials I use for my collages originate from a time where women were portrayed either as a pin-up, an object or as a chaste and obedient housewife. The magazines and books of that time don’t show women as individuals with hopes, dreams, and ideas of their own. So, I cut them loose from their original context and relocate them to a new environment. Here their retro personas meet ideologies of the 21st century. A new image is created.

Taina B. (Bagmeijer, 1977) studied Photographic Design at the Fotovakschool in Amsterdam. During her studies, she already was interested in applying mixed media to her photography. Her first collages date from that time. After graduation in 2014, she decided to fully explore the possibilities of analog paper collages. The past few years she dedicated herself to developing her skills as an autodidact image maker.
